Smart Home Cinema – Voice Control Start Here — Read Before Installing
Follow this short checklist first. After everything is ready, you can run the Smart Home Cinema installer and use the full tutorial for details.
Voice Assistant Edition
This quick guide is for the Voice Assistant Edition using Alexa / Google Assistant and TriggerCMD.
For the microphone-based setup, see the Local Voice Edition.
1. Required components (mandatory)
You must have the following before installing Smart Home Cinema:
One supported media player
- PotPlayer
- VLC Media Player
Important: Install the player using the default installation path. Do not change the destination folder. Smart Home Cinema detects the player automatically only when it is installed in its default location.
TriggerCMD
TriggerCMD is required. It connects your voice assistant (Alexa or Google) with your Windows PC.
One voice assistant
- Amazon Alexa
- Google Assistant / Google Home
Smart Home Cinema is designed for voice control. Without Alexa or Google Assistant, the system cannot be used as intended.
OpenSubtitles account (only for subtitle automation)
If you want automatic subtitle download and synchronization, you will need an OpenSubtitles account (username + password).
If you do not plan to use automatic subtitles, you can skip this.
2. Download the required tools
Download the official installers from their websites:
- PotPlayer: https://potplayer.tv/
- VLC Media Player: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
- TriggerCMD: https://www.triggercmd.com
- Alexa / Google Home apps: Google Play / App Store
- (Optional) OpenSubtitles: https://www.opensubtitles.com
3. Configure everything first
Before running the Smart Home Cinema installer, please complete these steps:
Accounts & linking
- Create your TriggerCMD account on the website and log in there.
- Install the TriggerCMD Desktop agent on your PC.
- Install the Alexa or Google Home app on your phone.
- Link your voice assistant with TriggerCMD (as explained in the full tutorial).
- (Optional) Create an OpenSubtitles account. Your OpenSubtitles username and password will be used later, during the Smart Home Cinema installation.
Media player
- Install PotPlayer or VLC using the default installation path.
- Do not change the destination folder during installation.
4. Prepare your folders
Create two folders on the same internal drive / partition:
- Movies Folder – movies or episodes you plan to watch
- Watched Movies Folder – movies you have already watched
Rules:
- Both folders must be on a fixed drive (no USB sticks).
- Both folders must be on the same partition.
- Folders must be different (not the same path).
- After installation, do not rename or move them.
- Unpack movies first — put only the video and subtitle files in the Movies Folder (not folders).
5. Now install Smart Home Cinema
After all the steps above are complete:
Run the installer
Start the setup file for your preferred edition:
SmartHomeCinema-Windows-PotPlayer-Setup.exe
SmartHomeCinema-Windows-VLC-Setup.exe
For detailed, step-by-step screenshots and explanations, use the full Installation & Setup Guide included with Smart Home Cinema.
Switching between editions (PotPlayer ↔ VLC)
You can switch between the PotPlayer version and the VLC version at any time. To ensure a clean and stable setup, always follow this procedure:
- Uninstall the currently installed Smart Home Cinema edition
- Install the new edition you want to use
Following this order ensures that Smart Home Cinema starts with a clean configuration and avoids conflicts between different editions.
Important: Each edition (PotPlayer / VLC) uses its own command set.
After switching editions, you must import the new Smart Home Cinema command file again in TriggerCMD so it replaces the previous one.
This prevents old configuration or progress files from causing unexpected behavior.
🔥 8.2.1 — Automatic Import (Recommended)
After installing Smart Home Cinema, you must automatically import the Smart Home Cinema commands into TriggerCMD.
The import file is created during installation and is located inside Program Files.
Open the main tutorial and follow the chapter:
8.2.1 — Automatic Import (Recommended)
⚠ If you skip this step, voice commands will not work.
What Happens Next
If you followed all the steps above, you are ready to use Smart Home Cinema.
At this point:

- Your folders are prepared
- Your media player and voice assistant are ready
If something does not work as expected, there is usually no need to reinstall. Check the Troubleshooting section in the main tutorial first — most issues can be resolved quickly.
