Smart Home Cinema – Voice Control is a Windows software product that adds hands-free voice control to the movie playback setup you already use.

Two Smart Home Cinema product families

Smart Home Cinema is available through two separate download packages.

VLC / PotPlayer Package

This is the original Smart Home Cinema family.

Choose this package if you play your own local movie files directly on a Windows PC using VLC Media Player or PotPlayer.

The PC may be connected to a TV, monitor, or home cinema setup. Smart Home Cinema adds hands-free voice control to supported playback actions through local Windows automation.

Use voice commands to control playback, subtitles, movie navigation, system actions, and other supported functions without returning to the keyboard or mouse.

Jellyfin Package

Choose this package if you already use Jellyfin Server and want to control Jellyfin playback on a supported TV platform with your voice.

Smart Home Cinema runs on your Windows PC and sends voice-triggered commands to the Jellyfin app on your selected TV.

The Jellyfin family includes playback controls, seeking, a numbered Movie List, voice commands for launching selected movies or episodes, and the ability to choose which configured TV you want to control.

Smart Home Cinema does not replace Jellyfin. Jellyfin Server continues to manage your media library and playback.

Smart Home Cinema is an independent third-party product compatible with Jellyfin. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or maintained by the Jellyfin project.

Two ways to give voice commands

Both Smart Home Cinema product families are available in two editions.

The package changes the playback target. The edition changes how your voice command reaches Smart Home Cinema.

Local Voice Edition

Speak directly into a microphone connected to your Windows PC.

Supported voice commands are recognized locally on your computer. You do not need Alexa, Google Assistant, or TRIGGERcmd.

For voice commands from another room, you can use a wireless microphone system with a receiver connected to the PC.

Voice Assistant Edition

Use Alexa or Google Assistant through TRIGGERcmd.

Speak through a compatible Alexa or Google Assistant device, or use the corresponding mobile app on your phone. The command reaches Smart Home Cinema on your Windows PC through TRIGGERcmd.

Smart Home Cinema itself uses a one-time license and does not require a recurring Smart Home Cinema subscription.

Voice Assistant Edition uses TRIGGERcmd, a third-party service with its own plans and conditions. Local Voice Edition does not use TRIGGERcmd.

The Jellyfin family can send voice-triggered commands to the Jellyfin app on supported TVs. This does not make Smart Home Cinema a universal smart-TV remote.
